Only women of a certain age will really understand this… It’s a true story.
A woman from Michigan was on vacation with her family in a small New England town where Paul Newman and his family often visited.
One Sunday morning, she got up early to go for a long walk. After walking five miles, she decided to treat herself to a double-dip chocolate ice cream cone.
She hopped in the car, drove to the village center, and went straight to the bakery/ice cream shop. There was only one other person there: Paul Newman, sitting at the counter having a doughnut and coffee.
When their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat. Paul Newman gave her a polite nod, and the woman smiled shyly. She reminded herself to calm down. She was a happily married woman with three kids and 45 years old, not a teenager!
The clerk gave her the ice cream, and she took the cone in one hand and her change in the other. She walked out, making sure not to look at Paul Newman again.
When she reached her car, she realized she was holding only the change, but her ice cream cone was missing. Did I leave it in the store? She rushed back inside, expecting to find the cone still on the counter or with the clerk. But no ice cream cone was there.
Then she looked over at Paul Newman. With his usual warm smile, he said, “You put it in your purse.”
And that was that!
