At 11 pm on a recent Saturday night, I paid the “bail” on this horse when she was destined to load on a truck bound for slaughter. Then, I found out she was five hours away, and my trailer is out of commission. Because I had done right by this mare, and with the help of some wonderful people, everything fell into place and she was at my place by 8 pm on Monday. She is thin, covered with scrapes, sunburnt, has lice and worms. She was still wearing tags from two different auctions. Despite how she has been treated, she is sweet and affectionate. She loves to nuzzle my neck, face and hair. Follows me around like I am a magnet. She is respectful and poised. She was obviously raised and trained well. For the life of me, I can’t understand how she ended up bound for execution. She seems to sense that she dodged a bullet ( no pun intended).I named her Damsel because she was in distress, and I rescued her.
