I’m in my mid 20s. I don’t want to have kids and I dread having periods. Should I have my uterus removed?

My girlfriend (a urologist) recently had a patient who demanded that his one remaining testicle be removed, because “he did not needed it anyway.”

He was an old farmer, and had taken a hit from one of his cows. The scrotum was bigger than your average grapefruit, and in his logic the giant testicle bothered him more than it would if removed. Little did he know that he actually needed his testicle to maintain the hormonal balance in his body. (No testosterone = no man.)

So she resisted his every try to get rid of the thing.

More generally, I doubt it if any OB/GYN would remove your uterus for no good medical reason whatsoever — that’s not what serious surgeons do.

Hysterectomies also do not come without possible long-term complications such as risk of pelvic organ prolapse, or urinary incontinence — extra reasons for your OB/GYN do refuse your question every which way. (There are birth control pills that totally stop you periods, by the way, so maybe that’s the option you want to consider.)

And then again: you simply do not want to have a hysterectomy performed by an OB/GYN for any reason whatsoever —

Who knows what else would be cut through along the way.
