For all the parents who have a son or daughter

For all the parents who have a son or daughter with an average gpa less than 3.0 this is for you.

My son didn’t receive scholarships or have a high gpa. He still got into college. He was not interested in a 4 year school but I made him apply and go. Took him 4 months to complete the applications. He was admitted to 3 of 4 schools. He spent Freshman year at small university in Oklahoma that most people have never heard of.

His counselor in high school agreed with me that my smart son was lazy, forget to turn in assignments etc. ACT and SAT scores were through the rough which is why we knew he was smart and just being lazy.

In August I dropped him off for college. My words to him “go to class even on the days you don’t want to go”. I want you to have a freshman experience, a freshman story. If you give me one year I will not ask anything else of you. He rarely came home but I did talk or text with him daily. I told him not to get a job that I would take care of the expenses, JUST GO TO CLASS and Turn in your homework. Oh and do not get a girlfriend freshman year. Give me 110% and you don’t to return if you do not like college after freshman year.

I picked him up today and had to help him pack and clean up the room. Who cares that he was not ready when I arrived. Who cares that I was sweeping the dorm floor. With the car packed to the limit I would not have it any other way.

He has a 3.7 gpa for his freshman year, he is now eligible for scholarships and he is enrolled in summer school and the fall semester. Many of those C students thrive in college so don’t compare your son or daughter to others, don’t be upset they do not have full ride scholarships. Let them blossom when it’s their time….
