I took a car to a tire shop to get a screw in the center of the tread of a tire removed. The service writer and I examined the tire and he stated it was repairable, and they do flat repairs for free. Shortly after getting car in the bay, the service writer told me the tire had another problem, making it not repairable. We went out and they showed me steel pin stuck exactly perpendicular in the inside sidewall. The pin is in pristine condition, no roughness, no indication being run over, and perfectly straight. It also happens to right be where the screw is. So, instead of a free flat repairs, I was looking at a $350+ tire replacement. I just don’t think that’s how an object penetrated a rolling tire.
No question the tire would have to be replaced, but not by them. I told them to remount the tire and I would go elsewhere. They were shocked! I didn’t want to buy a tire from them, they asked?
