When we visited the shelter, my son was just 2 years old, and this pup climbed right under his arm, staying calm and patient with him. We had just said goodbye to our beloved 12-year-old girl, and I felt heartbroken. My kids were too, and I made one request—let’s adopt a female dog since I’m the only girl in the house, even the cat is male. My older son looked at this pup and said, “Mom, I want him.”
I hesitated. “But he’s a boy, and we agreed on a girl,” I replied.
“I know, Mom, but he’s the one I want,” my son said.
We brought him into the visiting room, and seeing how gentle he was, especially with my younger son, I just couldn’t say no.
Here’s the picture that convinced me:

It turns out part of his calmness came from a respiratory infection. Once we got him treated, he became a playful puppy, though he’s always been a calm dog. Between the infection and allergy treatments, the vet bills added up, but every penny felt worth it. He’s grown into a smart, sweet, and loyal dog who’s protective of his two boys.
