Today an older man approached

Today, an older man approached me and asked if I could help him with his phone. He was trying to open a message with an image of his granddaughter. I looked at his phone. It was an old Nokia model and I had to gently explain to him that I couldn’t show the photo.

She was discouraged when she shared that the photo was of her granddaughter and her new baby, her great-granddaughter, whom she didn’t know yet because they live in Buxton. I couldn’t just leave. I forwarded the message to my own phone and managed to open the image. When I showed it to her, her eyes filled with tears when she saw her great-granddaughter for the first time. The love and emotion in his expression were unforgettable.

He insisted on giving me £20 as a thank you, but I couldn’t accept it. Instead, I asked him to wait and quickly went to Boots to print the photo. I even bought a frame to store it safely.

When I handed him the framed photo, his joy was overwhelming. Seeing him so happy made my day very happy. It’s moments like these that remind us how much smaller acts of kindness can mean.
