“Ouch! We were called by the Rhino Momma Project to check on a rhino heifer who was very lame and had a swollen leg. We dart immobilized her, and noticed something hard in her foot pad.
A big piece of wood came out! The wound was flushed and cleaned, and we put a bandage over the foot, just to protect the wound for as long the bandage would last. She was treated with long-acting antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Together with a buddy she was moved into a ‘hospital’ boma to recover for a few days.
In the next few days, she was already walking much better, it must have been a big relief to have that piece of wood removed!
We like to thank the vigilant team of the Rhino Momma Project for helping this rhino!”
