My son, Waylon Sam

Our family has lived through the most painful days of our lives. My little boy, Waylon Sam, only four years old, passed away in a tragic accident. Losing him has been a pain beyond anything we could have imagined.

After two weeks of grief, confusion, and unimaginable sorrow, our family made a decision that we knew would honor Waylon’s beautiful and giving spirit—we chose to donate his organs so that other children could live. It was the hardest decision we have ever made, but also the most meaningful.

Waylon’s small intestine was donated to a 9-year-old girl. Later, we were told that her condition was extremely rare, and that finding such a perfect match had not happened in the past ten years. Knowing that Waylon was able to give her a second chance at life brought us a small light in the darkness.

A 2-year-old child received his liver, and a baby under one year old received his heart. Because of Waylon, these children now have the opportunity to grow, to play, to smile, and to live.

Our son saved the lives of three children. Through organ donation, he became a hero—our hero, and a hero to families who will forever be grateful for his gift.

Waylon’s life, though short, made an enormous impact. His love continues to live on in the hearts and bodies of the children he helped save.
