My husband, our 4-month-old daughter, and I were flying home from vacation on April 19 (Palm Springs to Calgary, flight 1475). Our baby girl was fast asleep when we boarded, so we thought, “This is going to be an easy flight.” Boy, were we wrong…
As soon as the captain made an announcement on the intercom, she woke up — which, of course, isn’t anyone’s fault. I nursed her back to sleep, popped in my headphones, and we started watching our movie. About 30 minutes later, everything fell apart.
Whether it was gas or the pressure, our little one was NOT happy. And let’s be honest — airplane seats aren’t exactly great for rocking a crying baby. We were sweating, trying to calm her down, and could feel every eye on us.
That’s when Ashley, a flight attendant, stepped in like a true hero. She asked if she could take our daughter and walk with her up and down the aisle.
My first reaction was, “Wait… a stranger wants to take my screaming baby for a walk?” But we said yes — and Ashley worked her magic. She calmed her right down.
It might not sound like much, but to us, it meant the world. I never imagined someone would offer to do something so kind — especially not with a crying baby.
So, thank you, WestJet. And thank you, Ashley, for going above and beyond. Your kindness and baby-whispering skills made all the difference.
