My heart felt full during lunch at Walmart today

My heart felt full during lunch at Walmart today.

A man in front of me was checking out. When the cashier gave him the total, he looked back at me with an embarrassed smile and started pulling coins out of his pockets. He was nervous, miscounted, and kept saying, “I’m so sorry,” with his hands shaking.

Then, the kind cashier gently took his hands, poured the change onto the counter, and said, “It’s okay, honey. We’ll count this together.”

He kept apologizing, but both of us told him everything was fine. They finished the payment, and he slowly walked away.

I looked at the cashier and said, “Thank you for being so patient with him.” She shook her head and replied, “You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. The problem in this world is we’ve forgotten how to love each other.”

I want to be more like her.
