Marcia Thompson, a U.S. Customs officer, and Terry Thompson had been married for close to 20 years when she put an end to everything. Terry was very controlling, monitored her every move, and would occasionally beat her.

One time, it was so serious that he dragged her by the hair across the street. Their neighbor had to call 911 to separate them.

She left several times, but each time he would plead for her to come back, promising he would change. But he never did.

On August 9, 2019, while Marcia Thompson was getting ready for her shift, an argument erupted and Terry started threatening her. He threatened to do irreparable damage to her and her family. She thought she had had enough of him and pulled out her service weapon and used it on him. Nine times she fired and took his life away.

When she was done, she calmly called 911 to report what she had done.

During her trial, her defense declared that she suffered from battered woman syndrome and that she acted in self-defense. Marcia was acquitted and walks free today.
