In this story, I was actually the patient. I needed to have some moles removed from my face to check if they were cancerous. The dermatologist was very old-fashioned in his ways—he was way past the usual retirement age and insisted on using a scalpel for everything.
To start, he gave me three injections to numb the area on my face. These were the most painful injections I’ve ever had. But even after that, I could still feel him cutting into my face. So, I told him.
Right away, he gave me two more injections to numb it further. I later learned that this wasn’t the right way to handle things. My girlfriend recently told me about a similar case where someone almost lost their life due to an overdose of anesthesia. Anyway, back to my story.
When the procedure was over, I felt terrible. I couldn’t even stand up without feeling like I was going to throw up. I was dizzy, nauseous, and felt like the world was spinning out of control. It was so bad I thought I might faint.
My parents had to drive me home, and the only thing I could do was lie in bed with a bucket next to me. I stayed there, feeling completely sick, for the rest of the day.
Thankfully, the moles turned out to be non-cancerous.
