In November 2022, 22-year-old Jasmine Pace, a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, was reported missing.
Concerned about her disappearance, Jasmine’s family tracked her phone to the apartment of her boyfriend, Jason Chen. They broke in using a credit card, and found her belongings but no sign of her. A police search revealed bloodstains and evidence of a violent struggle.
On December 1, Jasmine’s body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase near the Tennessee River. She sustained more than 60 wounds from a bladed weapon with her ankles handcuffed and shackled to her right arm.
In January 2025, Chen was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He claimed the attack started after Jasmine confronted him for chatting with other girls.
