I was wrapping up my shift at work today when Jacob and his mom came through my checkout line. I was bagging their items and just chatting, asking about their Christmas plans and what Jacob wanted this year. He said he asked for some games. Then his mom looked at me and quietly said, “Santa won’t be coming this year.”
As they were about to leave, I gently stopped her and asked for her number. I wasn’t going to let her go without giving it to me. As soon as I got off work, I went straight to the store and bought the games Jacob said he wanted.
Doing this made me so happy. Jacob is such a sweet boy, and he was over the moon when I gave him the gifts. There were lots of tears and hugs. Now he has something to smile about, and I can be even more grateful for what I have too.
If I learned anything tonight, it’s that it doesn’t matter what you have or don’t have. It doesn’t matter how many gifts are under your tree. What matters is showing love to the people around you and standing strong in who you are. Everyone deserves happiness at Christmas. And sometimes, you have to go out of your way to make that happen.
