In the Army in 1969 we got the mandatory high and tight haircut in Basic. In the Nam soon after we grew our hair out way past regulations, and nobody said a word.
at a hooch on base in the Nam. Not high and tight but there is no letdown on killing communists.
Later on civilian Hairstyles became much shorter (but still not high and tight) so in later years on active duty we went for the slightly longer but still within regulation No. 2 at the base barber shop.
The look in the mid 80s.
With a bar of Saddam’s gold in Iraq (no, I didn’t keep it). That is the No. 2 haircut.
After military retirement, I still go to the local base barbershop for a No. 2. That haircut no longer draws looks anywhere.
But the No. 1- high and tight- is still available. For any Soldier. Whether your unit requires it or not. So it’s not just the Marines.
