At night in the forests of Equatorial Africa

At night in the forests of Equatorial Africa, the sky comes alive with strange-looking animals called hammer-headed bats. Even though they might look scary—like they could drink blood—they’re actually harmless fruit-lovers.

Their favorite food is figs, but they also enjoy bananas, guavas, and mangos when they find them.

To eat, these bats suck out the juice and soft parts of the fruit, then spit out the rest.

After that, they fly off to the next tree to keep snacking through the night. Once they’re full, they head back to their homes high in the trees. They usually sleep in small groups above swamps or wet forest areas.
