I was at McDonald’s in Poughkeepsie, NY around 10:30 tonight, getting some fries and a milkshake for my girl, when I noticed a guy sitting next to his bike. I had a feeling he wanted food but couldn’t get any because the lobby was closed and he didn’t have a car, so I offered to go through the drive-thru for him.
He pulled out a crumpled coupon for a BOGO Big Mac and was struggling to get enough money together, so I told him I’d buy his meal.
What really made me sad was that we watched car after car pass him by, and I thought, “That must feel awful, having the whole world ignore you like you don’t matter.”
It made me realize how fast life moves, and how sometimes we forget the simple things like kindness, empathy, and generosity.
So, if you get anything from this, just remember to be kind to others. One day, you might be the one sitting on the curb next to your bike, hungry, and watching the world pass you by, just like you might have passed others.
