I work at CVS and was called in for an emergency shift right after already finishing one. Near the end of my shift—about an hour and a half before we closed—a mother and her young child came in. I helped her carry some of her heavier items to the front so she could keep shopping, and then I tried to help her find some soy-based Similac formula for her baby boy, but we were out of it.
When she came up to pay for the things she picked out, the total was more than she could afford. Right away, she started taking some of the bigger items out of her cart to put them back. She told her child they’d have to wait for snacks another time.
Then, a kind woman who had quietly walked up behind her leaned in and told me, “No, no, leave it there. She can get it.” She not only paid for the items the mom was going to return, but covered the entire cart—food, diapers, baby supplies, everything.
Kindness is still alive in America. Today, it showed up in the form of a stranger helping a baby boy and his mom with simple, everyday things.
